What are news feeds?

News feeds are designed to be read with a 'feed reader'. These were originally stand-alone programmes, but most modern web browsers now have feed-reading features built into them. The feed appears as a list of headlines each with short summary and sometimes a link back to the source.

The difference between a news feed and a web page is that rather than having to manually go back every so often to see if there are any changes, as with a web page, a feed reader will automatically check and flag any unread items as 'new' so you can spot them easily.

See left for how to subscribe.

Our news feed is in 'RSS 2' format which is understood by most feed readers, for example: Bloglines, Google Reader, BlogBridge, FeedDemon (Windows), NetNewsWire (Mac) and JNN. How you subscribe varies depending on the product but you can usually copy the website address (e.g. http://www.riderhq.com/news.rss.xml) into the 'feed URL' box of the programme. Alternatively you can sometimes drag the website's icon (left of the website-address) onto the feed reader programme and it will subscribe you.

You can also subscribe to feeds from your browser if you are using Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer 7. Browsers generally show an 'RSS' or 'feed' symbol to the right of the website-address. Click on this to subscribe.

Once subscribed you will receive a feed entitled 'RiderHQ News', click on it to see our news items, most recent first. This will automatically update every so often, keeping you in touch.
