The Session:

On arrival you will be welcome, checked in and given a personalised numbered bag.

After a quick equipment check and safety brief by a British Cycling qualified coach you'll be good to start riding on the velodrome.

(Please dont be worried about riding on the track. The gradient is nowhere near as steep as the slope that youll have seen on the track used during the Olympics. We use it to coach novices all the time.)
During the session you will be set games and challenges that will give you plenty of opportunity to interact and chat with each of the riders taking part.
After the session ends you will be given a form to complete. The form will ask you to place a tick next to any of the participants youve enjoyed chatting to. You will have the option to suggest whether your interest is purely social or more romantic than that.
Youll need to hand the form back to the event organiser. Then soon after the event, if any of your feedback has positively matched that of the other participants the organisers will send you their contact details by email and you can get in touch with them at your own convenience.

What to wear?  A question often clouds the mind of the fashion conscious cyclist. Dont worry, specialist clothing isnt required to ride on the track, but some basic threads will improve your track riding experience greatly:
  1. Helmets must be worn whenever using any cycling facility at Herne Hill Velodrome
  2. We strongly recommend wearing gloves or track mitts
  3. Ensure that shoe laces, and trouser bottoms are tucked well out the way of your chain. If either get entangled with your chain, at best youll rip them, at worst youll come off the bike. It is best to tuck laces into your shoes, and either roll trouser legs up, or tuck them into your socks
  4. Likewise, any baggy and flapping clothing (hoods, skirts, scarfs, coats etc) poses a risk of getting caught on something
  5. Please bring lots of layers, as it can get nippy in the evening
Your Bike:
Bikes must be roadworthy and have two functioning brakes
Road bikes only - No track bikes or fixed wheel bikes at this session (single speed freewheel with two brakes fine)
