ParkHill CX (PHCX) will be the second round in a new series of urban cycling events in Sheffield, that will highlight areas in the city that are currently experiencing regeneration and also reinforce Sheffield’s status as ‘The Outdoor City’. The PHCX race will take place around ParkHill Flats and the surrounding park areas on September 16th 2017.

The race format for adult categories will be 2 rounds per category and points from placings go towards the final score and overall placings. Roun 1 will be 30 mins and round 2 will be 20 mins. The Junior categories are 1 round and multiple laps. The J E James Brompton Dash will be a 20 min race and multiple laps.

A Sheffield Urban CX course is an exciting fusion of traditional CX and urban / MTB riding. Sprint sections and of course cobbles.

 

MTB SPD type cleats are advised if riding clipless pedals. Not suitable for shoes with studs fitted or road type clipless pedals

 

A summary of the categories are

Amateur Men: Aimed at riders who have either started racing or want to get started with a good level of fitness. The Sheffield Urban CX series offers newer riders an exciting and alternative format to test their skills,

Sport Men: Good level of fitness and experience of racing. Good bike handling skills and tactics up your sleeve!

Veteran Men: 40+ in age but good fitness and bike handling skills, could be your first race or one of the many you have planned for your season.

Women: Aimed at riders with a good level of fitness and a range of abilities, either new racer or experienced this category will give you a chance to test your skills on this exciting course  

Junior - 6-11years: Aimed at young riders who want to try out their first race or those who have been racing for a few years. The course will take in some of the elements used in the adult course, it will still be a good test of skill for young riders ready to take on the challenge. Race duration 15mins

Junior - 12-16years: Aimed at young riders who are keen to try out racing or those who have raced for a while. The course features exciting riding and features obsticles to negotiate. A cahnce to inspire young riders to keep cycling the course will take in some of the elements used in the adult course, it will still be a good test of skill for young riders ready to take on the challenge. Race duration 25mins

Suitable bikes for the junior races are: CX bikes, MTB, Hybrid bikes - BMX or single speed bikes are not reccomended due to the nature of the course

Balance Bike Race: A chance for even the smallest and youngest riders to get their 'Race Face' on! age up to 5 years. This 10 minute race is a chance to inspire the future generation of rider. We are expecting to see some grit and determination from these young riders! Race duration 10mins
