Join us for the second installment of the Barry (Baz) Covington Memorial Ride.

Early on Monday morning on 4th September 2017, we received the dreadful news that one of our most accomplished riders and dearest friends, Barry Covington, had died. He had been taking part in the Gran Fondo ride, part of the UCI Amateur Cycling World Championships, in Albi, France. During the ride, he suffered from extreme heat exhaustion and died later in hospital, surrounded by his family and his partner, Paul.

Barry was young, just 36, and left us far too soon. Nonetheless, he achieved some extraordinary things during his lifetime and as part of saying a fond farewell to our friend and celebrating his life, Penge Cycle Club is organising a special bike ride in his honour. The routes are all variations on one of Barry’s favourite rides and we will all meet at Herne Hill Velodrome at the end

The ride

Although Barry was part of Penge Cycle Club this event is open to anyone who knew Barry or had heard about him and his epic endurance events.
